The stops, in order

  1. Seville CathedralThis is Seville Cathedral, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, begun in 1401 on the site of the former Almohad great mosque. "Let us build a church so great that those who see it will think us mad," its founders are said to have declared. Beneath its immense vaults rests, by tradition, Christopher Columbus, whose tomb is borne by four heralds representing the kingdoms of Spain.
  2. Royal Alcázar↳ 407 m from the previous stop (straight line)The Royal Alcázar is the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe: the sovereigns of Spain still stay here. Built on former Muslim fortifications, it was transformed in the 14th century by Peter the Cruel in the Mudéjar style, blending the skill of Muslim craftsmen with Christian patrons. Stuccoes chiselled like lace, shimmering azulejos, gilded wooden ceilings and patios where water murmurs: the Courtyard of the Maidens and the Hall of Ambassadors rank…
  3. La Giralda↳ 396 m from the previous stop (straight line)The Giralda, almost one hundred metres tall, is the cathedral's bell tower and the emblem of Seville. Originally it was the minaret of the great mosque, built in the 12th century by the Almohads, sister to the towers of Marrakech and Rabat. After the Reconquest, the Christians topped it with a Renaissance belfry crowned by the Giraldillo, a bronze weathervane symbolising Faith.
  4. Maestranza Bullring↳ 560 m from the previous stop (straight line)The Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza is one of the oldest and most beautiful bullrings in Spain. Begun in 1761, its white-and-ochre silhouette, golden sand ring and Baroque arcades make it a temple of bullfighting where, it is said, the most demanding corrida in the country takes place. During the April fair, the ring vibrates to paso-dobles before thirteen thousand spectators.
  5. Torre del Oro↳ 401 m from the previous stop (straight line)The Torre del Oro, the Tower of Gold, has stood on the bank of the Guadalquivir since the early 13th century. Raised by the Almohads, this twelve-sided watchtower once sealed the port with a chain stretched to the far bank to control shipping. Its name may come from the golden reflections of its old glazed tiles on the river, or from the American gold that passed through Seville in the age of discovery.
  6. Plaza de España↳ 1.0 km from the previous stop (straight line)The Plaza de España is Seville's most spectacular square, built in 1928 for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. In a vast five-hundred-metre semicircle, it blends brick, marble, ceramics and wrought iron in a grand neo-Moorish and Renaissance style. A navigable canal, crossed by four bridges symbolising the ancient kingdoms of Spain, runs along the building.
  7. Setas de Sevilla (Metropol Parasol)↳ 1.8 km from the previous stop (straight line)The Setas de Sevilla, nicknamed "the mushrooms", form the largest wooden structure in the world. Unveiled in 2011 by architect Jürgen Mayer, this giant undulating parasol of laminated-pine latticework rises over the Plaza de la Encarnación, long a mere car park. Beneath its pillars, a museum displays Roman and Moorish remains uncovered during construction.
