The stops, in order
- Chen Clan Ancestral HallThis is the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, a masterpiece of traditional Qing Dynasty architecture. Built in the late 19th century, this complex served as both a sanctuary and a school for the 72 clans of the Chen family. What makes it extraordinary is the incredible richness of its decorations: wood, stone, and brick carvings, glazed pottery, and wrought iron patterns.
- Temple of the Six Banyan TreesWelcome to the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees, a millennium-old Buddhist sanctuary in the heart of the old town. Founded in 537, it was famously named by the great poet Su Dongpo, who was struck by the beauty of the banyan trees in its garden. The centerpiece is the Flower Pagoda, an elegant 57-meter-high octagonal structure.
- Shamian IslandWelcome to Shamian Island, a tranquil European enclave in the heart of bustling Guangzhou. A former French and British colonial concession from the 19th century, this small sandy island has preserved its avenues lined with ancient trees and its Victorian-style, neoclassical, and Rococo buildings. Strolling through its pedestrian streets, you will encounter bronze statues illustrating daily life from long ago.
